Auto Suspend/Close Tabs Overview

What is Auto Suspend/Close Tabs?

Auto Suspend/Close Tabs automatically suspends or closes inactive tabs to free up memory, reduce CPU load, and extend battery life. This feature keeps your browsing experience faster, smoother, and more efficient.

How It Works

The extension monitors your tab usage and automatically manages inactive tabs based on your configured settings:

  • Tab Suspension (Discard): Suspends inactive tabs while keeping them visible in your tab bar. Suspended tabs reload when clicked, preserving form content and scroll position.
  • Tab Closing: Completely closes inactive tabs to maximize memory savings.

Key Benefits

  • Memory Optimization: Reduce browser memory usage by suspending or closing unused tabs
  • Performance Improvement: Lower CPU usage and faster browser performance
  • Battery Life Extension: Reduce power consumption for better battery life on laptops
  • Workflow Preservation: Customize which tabs to protect and maintain your important work

Smart Protection

The system intelligently protects important tabs from being suspended or closed:

  • Pinned tabs - Keep your essential tabs always active
  • Active tabs - Never suspend the tab you're currently viewing
  • Media playback - Protect tabs playing audio or video
  • Form changes - Preserve tabs with unsaved form data
  • Desktop notifications - Keep notification-enabled tabs active
  • Offline tabs - Maintain offline-accessible content
  • Whitelist protection - Add specific websites to bypass automation

Flexible Configuration

Customize the behavior to match your workflow:

  • Time thresholds - Set how long tabs remain inactive before action
  • Tab count limits - Protect a specific number of recently accessed tabs
  • Skip rules - Choose which types of tabs to never suspend/close
  • Website whitelists - Protect specific domains from automation
