Use Bookmark Folder Names as Group Names

This feature automatically assigns tab group names based on bookmark folder structure when opening bookmarked URLs.

Location: SettingsTabsAdvanced Tab GroupsUse bookmark folder names as group names (disabled by default)

How it Works

When this option is enabled:

  • If an opened URL exists in your bookmarks, the tab will automatically be assigned to a group
  • The group name is derived from the bookmark's folder hierarchy
  • This provides automatic organization based on your existing bookmark structure

Folder Level Selection

When the feature is enabled, you can also configure the Bookmark Folder Level setting to control which part of the folder hierarchy is used as the group name:

Available Options

Top-level Folder

  • Uses only the highest level folder name as the group name
  • Example: If bookmark is in Work/Projects/Website, group name will be "Work"

Parent Folder

  • Uses the immediate parent folder name as the group name
  • Example: If bookmark is in Work/Projects/Website, group name will be "Projects"

Full Path

  • Uses the complete folder hierarchy as the group name
  • Example: If bookmark is in Work/Projects/Website, group name will be "Work/Projects/Website"

Benefits

  • Automatic Organization: Tabs are automatically grouped based on existing bookmark structure
  • Consistent Naming: Group names align with your bookmark organization system
  • Flexible Hierarchy: Choose the appropriate folder level for your workflow
  • Reduced Manual Work: No need to manually create and assign group names for bookmarked content

Use Cases

  • Project Management: Organize tabs by project folders from bookmarks
  • Topic-based Grouping: Group tabs by subject matter based on bookmark categories
  • Client Work: Separate tabs by client folders in bookmark hierarchy
  • Research Organization: Group research tabs by topic folders
