Auto Activate Tab Grouping

Auto Activate Tab Grouping automatically creates groups for new tabs based on configurable naming rules, streamlining tab organization without manual intervention.

How to Access

  1. Go to SettingsTabsAdvanced Tab Groups
  2. Enable "Auto Activate Tab Grouping" (disabled by default)

How It Works

When enabled, every new tab automatically:

  1. Creates or joins a group based on the selected naming rule
  2. Maintains organization as you browse different websites
  3. Groups related content according to your chosen format

Grouping Name Options

Choose how new groups are named:

None

No automatic grouping - tabs remain ungrouped.

Title

Uses the page title as the group name. Group names update dynamically as tab titles change.

Complete Domain

Groups by full website address (e.g., "docs.google.com", "mail.google.com").

Main Domain

Groups by primary domain only (e.g., "google.com" for all Google services).

Subdomain

Uses subdomain portion for grouping (e.g., "docs", "mail" for Google services).

Subdomain Prefix

Uses the first part of subdomain for grouping.

Domain Without Suffix

Uses domain name without extension (e.g., "google" instead of "google.com").

Custom Combination

Build custom naming patterns using domain parts:

Available Parts:

  • All Subdomains: Complete subdomain chain
  • First Subdomain: Only the first subdomain part
  • Last Subdomain: Only the last subdomain part
  • Main Domain: Primary domain name
  • All TLDs: Complete top-level domain chain
  • First TLD: Only the first TLD part
  • Last TLD: Only the last TLD part

Example for "mail.google.com":

  • First Subdomain: "mail"
  • Main Domain: "google"
  • All TLDs: "com"

Additional Settings

Ignore "www"

When enabled, treats "www.example.com" the same as "example.com" for grouping purposes.

Filter Out Pinned Tabs

When enabled, pinned tabs are excluded from automatic grouping.
