Auto Scroll to Active Tab
The Auto Scroll feature automatically scrolls the sidebar to show the currently active tab, ensuring you can always see which tab is active even with many open tabs.
Setting Location
- Open VertiTab settings
- Go to Tab Settings > Tabs
- Find "Auto Scroll to Active Tab"
- Toggle to enable/disable (enabled by default)
How It Works
When you switch to a different tab (via browser controls, keyboard shortcuts, or other means), VertiTab automatically scrolls the sidebar list to make the newly active tab visible.
When It Activates
- Tab switching: When you click on browser tabs or use Ctrl+Tab
- Window switching: When switching between browser windows
- External navigation: When tabs become active through other extensions or browser actions
- Programmatic changes: When tabs are activated through scripts or automation
Benefits
- Visual Orientation: Always know which tab is currently active
- Large Tab Lists: Essential when working with many tabs that require scrolling
- Quick Reference: Instantly locate the active tab without manual searching
- Workflow Continuity: Maintain awareness of your current context
Use Cases
Recommended for:
- Users with many open tabs (20+)
- Multi-tasking workflows
- Research or development work with numerous references
- When using keyboard shortcuts for tab navigation
Consider Disabling When:
- You prefer manual scroll control
- Working with fewer tabs where active tab is always visible
- Using VertiTab primarily for tab management rather than navigation
- Frequent tab switching causes distracting scroll movements
Performance Notes
- Minimal Impact: Scrolling is smooth and lightweight
- Smart Activation: Only scrolls when the active tab is not currently visible
- Optimized Timing: Scrolls after tab activation is complete
This feature helps maintain orientation in large tab collections by ensuring the active tab is always visible in the sidebar.
