You can disable box selection in the selection toolbar settings if needed. This will only disable drag-to-select functionality while preserving click-based selection.
Drag & Drop Reordering
Tab Reordering
Single Tab Dragging
- Drag any tab to reorder it within the same group or move it to a different group
- Drop on another tab to insert before/after it
- Drop on a group header to add the tab to that group
Multi-Tab Dragging
- Select multiple tabs first, then drag any selected tab
- All selected tabs will move together while maintaining their relative order
- A badge shows the number of tabs being moved
Group Reordering
Group-to-Group Dragging
- Drag a group header to reorder groups
- The entire group (with all its tabs) moves to the new position
Important Chrome Limitations: However, due to Chrome's behavior:
- Moving a group upwards (before another group) works as expected
- Moving a group downwards (after another group) requires Chrome to ungroup and regroup the tabs, causing a brief flicker that cannot be avoided
- Additionally, dragging groups triggers expand/collapse actions, which we attempt to restore, but some flickering may still occur
Cross-Window Operations
- Tabs and groups can be moved between different browser windows
- Simply drag to the target window's tab area in VertiTab
Visual Feedback
- Drag overlay shows the item being moved with a count badge for multiple items
- Hover effects indicate valid drop targets
- Smooth animations provide clear visual feedback during operations
Tips
- Selection Priority: When you have multiple tabs selected and click-drag one of them, all selected tabs will move together
- Keyboard + Mouse Combo: Use Ctrl/⌘ + Click to build custom selections, then drag to move them all at once
- Quick Multi-Close: Select multiple unwanted tabs and press Shift + W to close them quickly
- Box Selection Zones: For precise box selection, drag from empty areas between tabs
- Modifier Keys: Hold modifier keys during selection to add or toggle tabs without losing your current selection
These features work together to provide a comprehensive tab management experience, allowing you to efficiently organize large numbers of tabs with minimal effort.
