Keep Tabs Active

VertiTab provides functionality to keep important tabs active and prevent them from being automatically suspended by the browser. This feature helps maintain the functionality of critical web applications.

What is Keep Tab Active?

Keep Tab Active prevents the browser from automatically suspending tabs in the background. When enabled, tabs remain fully functional even when not actively in use, ensuring that web applications continue running.

Basic Tab Activation

Keep a Tab Active

To keep a specific tab active:

  1. Right-click on the tab in the VertiTab sidebar
  2. Select "Keep Tab Active" from the context menu
  3. The tab will be protected from automatic suspension

Site Configuration

You can configure keep-alive settings for entire domains:

Location: Settings → Site Settings → Select Domain

Available Options:

  1. Keep Page Active (Default: OFF)

    • Automatically keeps all pages from this domain active
    • Useful for work applications and monitoring dashboards
  2. Auto Sleep (Default: ON)

    • When enabled: Allows browser to suspend tabs according to system settings
    • When disabled: Prevents all automatic tab suspension for this domain
    • Works for all types of URLs including non-HTTP/HTTPS

Use Cases

  • Development Servers - Keep local development environments running
  • Monitoring Dashboards - Maintain real-time data updates
  • Video Conferencing - Prevent call interruptions in background tabs
  • Long-Running Forms - Protect unsaved work from suspension
  • Real-Time Applications - Maintain WebSocket connections and live data

Troubleshooting

  • Different browsers and websites use different technologies for automatic sleep optimization, which may cause functionality to not work properly
  • Non-website URLs, internal addresses, and local addresses may not work correctly
